CALEDON (Khabargali ) A exciting hybrid sport blending the precision of golf with the tactical charm of croquet is rapidly taking the world by storm. Woodball, played with solid wooden balls, mallets, and played on lush green grass, offers all the thrill of traditional lawn sports without the steep equipment costs or high club fees. To celebrate the sport's growing popularity, the Woodball Association of Canada (WAC) has announced a massive community event later this month, inviting families and sports enthusiasts to experience this unique outdoor game firsthand—entirely for free.
What is Woodball? Understanding the Basics
While it might sound like a traditional pastime, Woodball is an officially recognized international sport gaining serious traction across Canada.
The Course Layout
Much like golf, Woodball is played across a 12-fairway course rather than a single field.
Total Distance: A standard 12-fairway course spans at least 700 meters.
Fairway Width: Ranges between 2 meters and 7 meters.
Fairway Classification:
Par 3: Up to 50 meters (Target: 3 strokes or fewer)
Par 4: 51 to 80 meters
Par 5: 81 to 130 meters
The ultimate goal for every player is straightforward: propel the wooden ball through the fairway gate and into the cup using as few strokes as possible.
Equipment & Key Rules of Play
1. Equipment Players use a solid wooden ball and a specialized wooden mallet.
2. Stroke Technique The ball must be struck cleanly using the flat head of the mallet; pushing or scooping the ball is strictly prohibited.
3. Key Zones
Starting Area: A rectangular box measuring 2\text{ m} \times 3\text{ m} where the initial shot is taken.
Gate Area: A circular zone measuring 5 meters in diameter containing the wooden goal posts and swinging cup.
Penalties: Standard 1-stroke penalties are awarded for hitting the ball out-of-bounds, touching the ball with your body, improper hitting techniques, or illegally contacting the gate frame.

Free Community Woodball Festival Scheduled for July 25
Led by WAC President Jagdeep Sacha and vice president Anurag Shrivastava and his team, the association is rolling out the red carpet for the local community under the banner "Together Promoting Community Through Woodball."
